An English Translation“I am Mesha, son of Chemosh (mald) king of Moab, the Daibonite.
My father reigned over Moab for thirty years,
And I reigned after my father.
And I made this high-place for Chemosh in Kerekhoh a high-place
Of salvation, because he had saved me from all assailants,
And because he had let me see my pleasure
upon all them that hated me. (Psalm, CXVIII.7)
Omri was king of Israel and he afflicted Moab for many days,
For Chemosh was being angry with his land. (2 Kings XVII.8)
And his son (i.e. Ahab), succeded him,
And he also said, I will afflict Moab.
In my days said he thus,
And I saw my pleasure on him and his house.
And Israel perished with an everlasting destruction;
Now Omri had taken possession of the land of Mehdeba (Numbers XXI.30).
And it (i.e. Israel) dwelt therein his days (viz. twelve years) and half
The days of his son, forty years; and Chemosh restored it in my days.
And I built Baal Meon (Joshua XIII.17), and I made in it the reservoir,
And I built Kiryathen (Numbers XXXII.37).
Now the men of Gad had dwelt in the land of Ataroth. (Numbers XXXII.34)
From of old;
And the king of Israel built for himself Ataroth.
And I warred against the city and seized it.
And I slew all the people of the city, a gazing-stock to Chemosh and to Moab.
And I catured thence the altar-hearth of Daedoh and I dragged it before
Chemosh (compare “before Jahveh”) (I Samuel XV.33) in Keriyyoth (Amos
II.2). And I settled therein to men of Sheren (I Chronicles V.16, Sharon)
And the men of Makharath.
And Chemosh said unto me, “Go (compare Joshua VIII.1), seize Nebo (Isaiah XV.2) against Israel”. And I seized it, and slew by night and warred against it
From the break of dawn unto noon.
And I seized it, and slew all of it, 7,000 men and male sojourners and women and female sojourners and maidens.
For to Ashtor-Chemosh had I devoted it (Deuteronomy II.34, Authorised Version “utterly destroyed”)
And I took thence the vessels of Jahweh, (This is the earliest instance of the DIVINE NAME in this spelling outside the Old Testament), and I dragged them before Chemosh.
Now the king of Israel had built Jahas (Jahaz, Numbers XXI.23) and dwelt in it,
When he warred against me.
And Chemosh drove him out (Joshua XXIV.18) from me;
And I took of Moab 200 men, all its chiefs.
And I brought it (i.e. them) against Jahas, and seized it, to add it into Daibon.
I built Kerekhoth, the wall of the Woods and the wall of the Mound (or Ophel,
2 Chronicles XXVII.3)
And I built its gatesand I built its towers.
And I built the King’s house, and I made the two reservoirs of water in the
Midst of the city.
Now there was no cistern in the m idst of all the city, in Kerekhoth;
And I said to all the people,
Make you every man a cistern in his house.
And I cut out the cutting of Kerekhoth with the prisioners of Israel.
And I built Aroer, and I made the highway by the Arnon.
I built Beth-Bamoth, for it was overthrown.
I built Beser (Deuteronomy IV.33) for ruins had it become.
And the chiefs of Daibon were fifty,
For all Daibon was obedient.
And I reigned over one hundred chiefs in the cities which I added to the land.
And I built Mehdeba and Beth-Diblathen.
And Beth-Baal-Meon;
And I took thence the sheep-masters...
The sheep of the land.
And as for Horonen, there dwelt therein...
And Chemosh said unto me,
Go down, fight against Horonen (Jeremiah XLVIII.5).
And I went down...
And Chemosh restored it in my days...”
SPANISH TRANSLATION
PIEDRA DE MESHA REY DE MOAB
“Yo soy Mesha, hijo de Quemoshmald, rey de Moab,
El Dabonita. Mi padre reinó sobre Moab por treinta años,
Y yo he reinado después de mi padre.
Y he hecho estos lugares altos para Quemosh en Kerejot,
Un alto lugar de salvación,
Porque él me ha salvado de todos los que me asolaban,
Y a causa de que él me ha permitido mi satisfacción
Sobre todos ellos, los que me odiaban.

Ahora bien, los hombres de Gad habían habitado en la tierra de Ataroth
Desde antiguo; y el rey de Israel construyó para el mismo Ataroth.
Y yo querreé contra la ciudad y la tomé.
Y maté a toda la gente de la ciudad, una ofrenda para Quemosh y Moab.
Y yo capturé entonces el altar-hogar de Dawdoh
Y lo arrastré delante de Quemosh (compare “delante de Adonai”)
En Keiyyoth. Y yo coloqué allí a los hombres de Sheren,
Y a los hombres de Majaroth, y Quemosh me dijo:
“Ve y toma Nebo contra Israel”.
Y yo fui de noche y guerreé contra esta

Ahora bien, el rey de Israel había construído Yahas y habitó en esta,
Cuando el batalló contra mi.
Y Quemosh lo condujo delante de mi;
Y yo tomé de Moab 200 hombres, todos sus jefes.
Y yo los comandé contra Yahas, y la tomé, y la anexé a Daibon.
Yo construí Kerejoth, el Muro de los Maderos y el Muro del Túmulo.
Y yo construí sus puertas y yo construí sus torres.
Y yo construí la casa del Rey, y yo hice los dos estanques para agua
En medio de la ciudad.
Ahora bien, no había cisterna en el medio de toda la ciudad,
En Kerejoth; y yo dije a todo el pueblo,
“Haga cada hombre una cisterna en su casa.
Y yo corté el suministro para Kerejoth con los prisioneros de Israel.
